Despite the dangers, ice fishing remains a safe activity as long as you know how to recognize hazards and practice safety. As a rule, three to four inches of ice is considered safe. Remeber that the ice thinkness can vary dramatically across the lake so be sure to drill or spud several test holes before venturing onto the ice.
